Tiler Northern Beaches

At Leerberg Tiling we specialise in the areas of bathroom tiling, floor and wall tiling, balcony and outdoor tiling, kitchen splashbacks, tile repairs and licensed waterproofing for homes across the Northern Beaches. We are a family owned business with over 53 years in the tiling trade, fully licensed and insured, and we do all the work ourselves rather than sending subcontractors. The same team handles your job from the first measure through to the final grout line.

Tiling Across the Northern Beaches

  • The Northern Beaches packs an extreme range of ground conditions into a narrow coastal strip, and that variety drives the tiling work here.
  • The coastal suburbs from Manly up through Dee Why, Collaroy and Narrabeen sit on deep sand profiles with high water tables, while the elevated and inland pockets and the Pittwater peninsula sit on Hawkesbury sandstone, with steep clifftop and waterfront blocks.
  • Running through all of it is salt: this is open ocean coast, and salt air works away at grout, fixings and waterproofing far faster than it does inland.
  • A page that just swaps a suburb name in cannot tell you that the ground under a Manly unit behaves nothing like an Avalon clifftop block.
  • We tile the whole peninsula, from beachside apartments and family homes through to waterfront and clifftop properties, and we choose materials and preparation to suit both the salt exposure and the very different substrates across the area.

The Local Issues: Salt, Sand and Sandstone

  • Salt is the constant.
  • On balconies, terraces and outdoor areas we use epoxy grouts that resist salt and water rather than cement grout that breaks down quickly near the surf, choose adhesives rated for the exposure, and seal natural stone against salt.
  • The coastal sand and high water tables call for proper substrate preparation and waterproofing, while the sandstone clifftop and waterfront blocks bring steep, split-level sites where falls, levels and drainage all have to be right.
  • We assess each before laying.

Areas We Cover

  • We tile right across the Northern Beaches, and several areas have their own page with the local detail that matters there:
  • Manly, Freshwater and Curl Curl, the southern beaches on deep coastal sand
  • Dee Why, Collaroy and Narrabeen, the erosion-front and lagoon flats
  • Avalon, Newport and Palm Beach, the Pittwater peninsula and clifftop homes
  • We also work in Mona Vale, Warriewood, Brookvale, Frenchs Forest and the surrounding suburbs.
  • If you are not sure whether we cover your area, give us a call and ask.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the salt air affect tiling on the Northern Beaches? Yes. On open ocean coast, salt breaks down standard grout, fixings and waterproofing much faster, so on balconies and outdoor areas we use epoxy grout, suitable adhesives and seal stone against salt.

Do the different suburbs really need different approaches? Yes. The coastal suburbs are deep sand with high water tables, while the peninsula and elevated areas are sandstone with steep blocks, so substrate preparation differs across the area.

Do you tile balconies and outdoor areas? Yes. These need an external membrane to AS 4654, correct falls and drainage, and salt-resistant materials, which we install so water runs away rather than into the rooms below.

Can you fix a leaking shower or balcony without removing all the tiles? Sometimes. If the membrane is sound and the issue is failed grout or silicone, we can re-grout and reseal. If the waterproofing has failed, the tiles need to come up to redo it properly.
