Frequently Asked Questions
Can you tile inside an old sandstone house? Yes, and it needs a different approach. Solid stone walls and Victorian timber floors handle moisture differently to modern construction, so we confirm the substrate, use appropriate bedding and preparation, and never trap moisture where it can damage the original fabric.
Can you restore an original tessellated verandah or hallway? Yes. Where the tiles are sound we lift and reset them, and where they are cracked or missing we source matched replacements and blend them into the original pattern, then sort the bedding underneath so the floor sits true and sheds water.
Do you work within the conservation area rules? Yes. Most of Hunters Hill sits within a declared conservation area, and we tile in a way that respects the original fabric and detailing of these homes.
Can you fix a leaking shower without removing all the tiles? Sometimes. If the membrane is sound and the issue is failed grout or silicone, we can re-grout and reseal. If the waterproofing has failed, which is common under older renovations in these homes, the tiles need to come up to redo it properly.
